Surviving the Dreaded Year 12

Surviving the Dreaded Year 12

Holidays seem to disappear in a wink. Of course as they are carefree and fun ! All to soon it feels like it is time to seriously start thinking about the year ahead, the challenges, the assignments and will I have time for sport, a part time job and friends ?

Year 12 is particularly the year that attracts the most attention from society at large.

Families panic and this only adds to the angst felt by the year 12 student. Believe it or not it is the whole family, mum, dad, and siblings that feel they are caught up in the wave of year 12 hysteria. Yet it is only a time span of three terms or nine months mmm that reminds me of another type of giving birth? Perhaps some practical advice at this point may seem useful.

Organisation is Number One.

A no brainer you would think but hey when you are a teenager friends, phone, social media can get in the way of the serious stuff like school assignments. These days not many subjects have exams so no leaving your work until the last milli second when a last minute cram may get you over the line is not an option in the twenty first century.

It has been powers greater than you that have decided that student stress is lessened by regular assignments. But if you are not organised but some one who dithers and procrastinates about starting or planning a time- line to flag when drafts are due as well as the final piece then you are possibly in big trouble. Look at when the final due date is mentioned and work backwards to the present time.

Do you have a month translated as 4 weeks? Is it longer or shorter? Then look closely at the task. Does it have sections or topics within the broader question? How long are these? You may find that for argument sake the task could be divided out into smaller tasks or it could be one piece entirely.

Whatever the expectation you are ready to organise your work time to complete the assignment painlessly and with minimal stress. Of course this is for one subject but you are probably doing 4 or 5 so more importantly that you have an organised plan of when and what is needed. Your teacher should have the program that outlines the whole year.

Easier to plan then and if you have a tutor in your life they are a great resource to support you.
